Sounds like the tire ate some of the wiring harness.

Check the wiring going to the crank sensor.

I am trying to help a friend with the same problem.

2003 F150 4.6L v8

It is turning over fine.... it simply won't fire up and run like it's not getting gas (as mentioned above).

Most of the time it starts up cold fine.
-- Turn it off and it may or may not start again
-- Wait 1-2 minutes and it may or may not start again.
-- May start 2-3 times in a row and the next time it won't
-- It has shut down a number of times while driving, after waiting a few minutes to a few hours, it will start and run absolutely fine
-- It appears very unpredictable

Last year around this time of year he was having the problem. We checked the fuel pressure and it was fine. The only part we changed was the fuel filter. Somewhat dirty, but not to bad. After changing, it seemed to be better into the fall and winter. Now it's doing it again. He even took it to Ford dealer and they couldn't duplicate the problem or find an issue. Again, it is unpredictable.

UPDATE/REPORT:
-- He tried to start .... saw odometer light up... started.
-- Tried again .... saw odometer light up.... started.
-- Tried again .... just dashes on display (no odometer reading) .... won't start

What does this mean????????
