killed my transmission?

Was out and about and when it went to shift to third, it was a real heavy shift, whole truck jerked and rpms shot up. now I have no 3rd gear or reverse. That's while in overdrive. Without OD I can drive fine, but still no reverse. Also I had check my fluids, which were about a quart lower than normal and went from pink, to honey brown. Can't find any leak and my pan is clean.

2000 f150 xlt v8 4.6l, 285k miles. Ran like a champ till today.

Any suggestions? I've been told that my fluid caused the 3rd gear and bad linkage caused the reverse. Also told my sun gear is shot. Also told to either rebuild or buy a new transmission.

I will start with I have no experience in this subject, but I have a '97 F-150, the transmission stuttered on me when it would shift between third and fourth gear. I took it to Dana's Transmission, and they said it is one of two problems if not both, the snap ring broke and there are pieces of metal in that gear, or the torque converter is going out (confirmed it is going out but we don't know if that is what is causing it). Anyway, they said if I didn't fix these problems this is exactly what would happen, so maybe it was a broken snap ring and metal got in your gears, or your torque converter kicked the bucket.

Well once I got home, I just did a little test to check my toque converter, and it's working fine, if not great. And there's no stuttering, never really ever has. It just will not engage in reverse or third. It's like I go to put it in reverse, and it's like having another neutral. And then when I finally hit third gear, it just neutrals out, I have to slow down to a complete stop to get outta third and start over. Does it every time.
