New truck, few questions

Hello guys, new here, although have been lurking for awhile. Just bought my first F150. Not my first choice ill be completely honest, I have only owned F350's my entire life lol. First gas burner! Im in the process of transitioning out of the U.S. Coast Guard and made the smart decision to get something with cash and not having a payment since I am not 100% positive on my future plans.

Pretty sure I practically stole this truck, 2002 F150, 5.4 4x4, and just shy of 150k miles. Walked away with $5k even. One of my dads clients had the truck, hes a corporation pilot and I guess wanted something nicer to transport his clients, I dunno. Either way he took VERY good care of it. Havent viewed it in person yet, im still out in the wonderful state of California.... jk ....not back to Ohio yet, had my dad do the deal for me.

Anyways, first question, I am used to, and am a huge fan of having cab lights/chicken lights across the roof. Has anyone done this? I have seen a white Screw out here with them that looked OEM and very clean. How the he** do you measure that and get them in the exact proper spot?

Secondly, I hate the wheels, but do not want to dump a bunch of money into this and prefer OEM look. Can you just throw on FX4 wheels? Or are they the same diameter? Same BS and offset? Im almost for sure putting 33's on, with a lil TT, and call it a day. I feel like the FX4's would look way better than these average joes.

Im not sure how I feel about the tonneau cover, I never had one im a toolbox guy. Bed seems too small for a toolbox tho. But I think the determining point is if it has a quick release. If so, then Im sure itll be fine, just keep my tools in the bed with it locked.

I think thats it, I feel like Im forgetting a question. I suffered from a traumatic brain injury so I apologize in advance If this doesnt get onto paper how I envisioned it in my head. But ill be around yall and thank you in advance!

Welcome and congrats on the purchase! Definitely a steal of a deal on the truck from the looks of it.

There have been a few people to add cab lights to the truck, so I'm sure there is bound to be a write up somewhere or someone that can't point you in the right direction.

The FX4 wheels are 17x7.5", whereas the OE wheels you have are 16x7". They will swap over and still fit perfectly, so no worries there. You will have a little better choice of tire sizes and widths with the 17s too, which is a plus. And they just looks so damn good. However, the only chore will be finding a set in decent shape. FX4s have become insanely popular the last couple of years, and it's hard to find a set for sale at a good, fair price.

As for the tool box, You can go with a small inset box that fits inside the fender wells, or doing a shallow to medium depth overhang box. IDK if a full depth box will work.

Nice truck! I have a red '97 F-150 XLT, I really want the beige stripe at the bottom, beige or black would be awesome. I got mine at 159k miles for 5k.

Anyway, as far as your first question with cab lights, on the 150's they kinda look out of place imo, but they look different as not a lot of people have them. I tried and tried and tried to find your truck with cablights on it, and this was the closest I could find:

Another idea to ponder is a windshield visor. You can get the ones with lights in them, and it kinda chisels out the truck a bit more, below is a picture of a truck with the visor:

As far as the second question, I have no idea tbh, I have the same ones and it annoys me soooo bad, but my truck has a 5x135 lug pattern, so it is hard to find good looking, decent priced wheels.

On the toolbox vs cover, that is a very difficult decision, that cover is going to be hard to work with, simply because it does not look like it does a 90 degree angle when it opens (or at least not the ones I have worked with). You could sell it and get a trifold one, I have no idea if they lock, I didn't spent a lot of time looking at them as I am also a toolbox guy. Another idea is to just get a canopy, it allows you to have more space, and cover it efficiently.

In reference to your toolbox issue, Undercover makes small tilt out tool boxes that mount under the covers near the tailgate. They swing out over the gate for access and have individual locks as well. I am looking at getting one or two for my '08 F150

Thanks for the replies! Probably some of the best first responses of any forum ive been on lol.

Those undercover toolboxs I actually like, ill keep that in mind.

The visor, I HATE those lol sorry for some reason I am just completely against everything those are about haha.

And about the wheels, my second option is just going with some simple cragars. So ill look but I may end up just falling back on the cragars.

Thanks again guys!
