Hi, I have a New 4.2l ac compressor clutch. can I just change out the clutch to make it 4.6l?

 

That question makes no sense at all. Exactly what are you trying to do?

 

Do you have a 4.2 or a 4.6?

 

I have 4.6. I asked a mechanic and he said you can't. The 4.6 has a wider wheel/ clutch to fit wider belt. The compressor is wound differt so cant change out just the clutch. Sorry if I'm not making any sence, I'm new at this.

 

Sounds like crap to me. You should be able too change the clutch out. Most Ford ACs are the same. I took one out of my Old Aero and put it in my wifes old Explorer. I would go on line and look up the part number. Cross ref. it and they are the same.

 

Let's try again - just because you are new at this doesn't mean you can't give us details about your truck and what you need to do to it, in standard English sentences. Please try.

 

The Compressors clutch pulley assembly may be different. There are two kinds; 6 rib and 8 rib. Find out which one you have and go to Autozone and buy one.
