Instrument cluster problem

Hi all,

My truck is a 1997 F150 4x4 with the 4.6L. Last Saturday I replaced the broken worm gear that had caused my odometer to stop working. While I had the instrument cluster out, I replaced one burnt out bulb (194LL), and 3 more of the same bulbs while I was at it. After plugging in the 3 connectors back into the instrument cluster and putting everything back together, and starting the truck, the tachometer and temperature gauges would not function. The other 3 gauges work fine. I went for a short drive and the speedometer works fine also. I checked all the fuses that had something to do with the instrument cluster (as marked in the owner’s manual), and they are fine.

I’m thinking that since that the other gauges and speedometer are working fine, that maybe the temp gauge and tachometer have simply quit working. I don’t believe I damaged the instrument cluster when handling it (I tried to be careful) as I removed and reinstalled it. Maybe the instrument cluster needs replacing? Anybody have any thoughts/comments/advice?

I moved from Canada to the U.S. in 2003 (truck bought in Canada), and have not changed the instrument cluster to a U.S. version (miles, mph). Can I simply swap out my old Canadian cluster for a remanufactured U.S. cluster and be good to go? Or is there more involved than just the instrument cluster swap?

Hello,

From what I have read, you will have to have the new Guage Cluster synced to the PATS.
Seems the hard part is finding a Dealership that is willing & or able to do the work.
I have 3 Ford Dealerships within 10 miles of me, & they all claim they are unable to do the programming.

Good luck!

So it would be a simple 'plug-n-play' with a new (remanufactured) cluster?

It *should* be - but I'm not positive.

It will be. People have done it before with no issues.
