This guy here has gone 4.6 to 5.4 SC. He may have some valuable resources. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/member.php?u=167960
I personally lost my 4.2 to hydrolock on two of my F150s. One I rebuilt stock and the other was a V8 swap. I'm no manufacturer brand lover so what I'm about to tell you may get you angry. I went to a GM 5.3/T56. The swap was easy. The conversion harnesses are readily available. I now have a ton of room under the hood. And....I gained 100 hp/100 ft over the 4.2 with mid 20 MPGs on the highway.

Go for it then.

If you swap all the relevant computers and gauge cluster, you shouldn't even have to deal with PATS. Then again, I guess you'd still need keys synched to the PATS.

The rest is swapping stuff. Trans, driveshaft, axle, underhood stuff...chassis harness if you want to use the dual fuel pumps, etc.

there's nothing wrong with lsx engines. Better rods then our 5.4 Oem. I've thought about it a time or 2 lol.

Probably the best advice i've seen. 4.2 to a s/c 5.4 is a pretty serious undertaking.

You would have to change out the rear also for the bigger one.
I agree with jbrew, sell it!

Coming from a guy who is about to swap in a 5.4 DOHC to his 4.6 truck, I would agree with the sell it suggestions. Unless you have a garage and buy an entire donor truck, don't even attempt a swap like this. Pat's is no big deal as it can be turned off in the tune and everything can be set up to work, but it's not for the faint of heart. If you don't have much mechanical experience don't even attempt it.

Yep, only way I would do it is to buy a donor truck and swap everything. There is always more than you think that needs to be swapped, and if you get an entire truck you know you have everything.
