Ping and Stumble

Ok, problem solved... for sure..
Against everyone's advise, i did not take it to a "qualified tech". I have such a hard time finding such a person... This problem comes and goes and the few people who have hooked up analysis systems have said "nothing wrong"

So one rainy day the stumble was FINALLY so bad the check engine light was on, felt like a miss fire, and it was, cylinder 7... changed #7 COP. Drove it and it was much better, but i could still feel the ping/stumble under load.... Eventually, the problem seemed to just be back.... i decided the stumble felt so much like when I had the bad COP, that I would replace the remaining OEM COPs I had... Can't remember why i stopped replacing them, i had a set from, Yes, $89 on ebay....

Replaced all OEM COPs and the truck runs like new... it should now, just about everything is new... Test drove it now for 2 weeks under all conditions and its fixed... Probably was one more bad COP in the lot and I got it out.

I just wanted to finish this out by saying thank you to everyone for your help... And also say to others, beware, COPs go bad w/o a CEL.... Of course everyone knew that already, and a good tech coulda found it.

Best

I would have suggested that except you said in your original post that all plugs and cops were changed...................

If mode 6 test 53 was looked at it would have pointed to all faulty COPs with high misfire counts.
This is how it goes when diagnostics are not fully carried out and guessing rules the situation. This causes extended 'enjoyment' of the problems.
The EGR control solenoid is called EVR. The R is for regulated vacuum to the EGR because it's not just an open or closed operation. It is pulsed to provide a specific vacuum level when the system is under test by the computer.
The DPFE needs to read this level within tight limits and report the results as either a pass or a fail. A failure will involve a 4xx code depending on what test failed.
Good luck.

Problem was solved 6 years ago, look at post #16. 2001 engines do not have VCT.
