AMSoil ATF for power steering

Hi All,

amsoil synthetic ATF is acceptable to use in a 99's power steering system right?

Manual says to use Mercon ATF, I just want to be sure it is a suitable substitute before I go replacing it.

thanks!

Works better than standard Mercon/Mercon V.

Been using since 08 in my 98, -never makes a peep. It use to in the winter. Since Amsoil, she's a happy pump.

Well... did the turkey-baster w/straw method to suck out every bit that I could. Filled it back up and went for a drive around my neighborhood, lots of streets and intersections for me to turn left/right/etc. Noise is still present, but not obnoxious. Maybe after some drive time it will quiet down. It's really not that bad and the steering works just fine.

Hi.

May have to do that several times to get most of the old stuff out.

OR- purge the entire system - ol' Brewsky knows how to do that!

Sucking out the reservoir only gets a small fraction of the fluid out, you will have to repeat several times or flush it.

Yea, you just pull the return line and keep that reservoir full. Don't let it go dry, what ever you do.

I figured it was not getting the majority of the old fluid out, but somewhat of a refresh, I suppose. I'll run it for a month or so and go after it again. I'm sure I didn't hurt anything by exchanging what I was able to. Not completely comfortable pulling the return line... I can see that going badly :-)

Yea, that could go badly. There's write-ups out there how other people have done it as well. I used an extra court to flush out, - before reconnecting the return. So it may have cost me more right off. But man, -it works very well, never a problem.
