Sold the Expy, bought a (GASP) Prius

I had a love/hate relationship with the Expedition. I loved to drive it, but hated putting gas in it. I have a love/hate relationship with the Prius too. It's got a lot of nice features, but it's not the rolling luxury fortress I had gotten used to.

Sold it for the same price I bought for a year ago, so no loss and it covered half the cost of the Prius. The little Toyota gets 28 MPG at its speed limited 108 MPH. It gets 50+ around town. That's better than my turbo motorcycle. Crazy...

Oh yeah, it's faster than the Expy was too.

I have owned 40+ 4 wheeled vehicles over the years and time after time, the Japanese vehicles have proven to be far more reliable than domestics. On the current fleet, my truck is on it's 3rd engine (OK one was my fault) and my Lexuses with almost the same mileage are on the original engines. My unmodified SC400 has never needed anything outside of maintenance besides a ball joint, and my turbo'd SC300 handles 14-20 PSI of boost on stock internals. Both of the Lexuses start and run perfect every day while right now the truck is parked because it's misfiring AGAIN. New Visteon coils and Motorcraft plugs less than 10,000 miles ago.

So no, I'm not interested in the Focus when the Prius has proven to be one of the most reliable cars ever. Most of my driving (really my wife as I work from home) is in the city where the Prius gets way better mileage than the Focus.

Don't get me wrong, I love my truck - when it's working right, and I know the Focus is more Mazda than Ford, but personal experience and cold hard data says the Prius is a better buy for the long term.

Oh yeah, and I can run the A/C without the engine running!

I wouldn't have expected this from you . Don't think it's at all fair to say your truck is on its "third" engine when only one was new and the next two were junk yard pulls . . .

But hey, if you like it, great! I know gas can kill ya

Its hard to beat 50mpg. My father-in-law bought a new Prius last year. He simply loves it and never wastes a moment telling me what kind of gas mileage he is getting. I don't particularily like the look of the Prius. I guess if I was going to go that route, I would choose the Lexus CT200h, which is essentially a Prius, but it is wrapped in a much nicer package, body wise and interior wise.

Oh yeah.. The Prius is not visually appealing. I never buy anything newish. I don't like car payments. The Prius is an 05 with only 50k and been garaged it's whole life. It looks brand new.

Yeah, you're like me - used to slow and 11 MPG. When I had a 2006 Acura TL inbetween trucks, I was like "what is this 20-22 mpg (on premium)?!" But it was foreign so I got rid of it the second I found my truck. Not a fun 2 months.

That, and the electrical gremlins could very well be related to its extensive V10 swap and all the frankenstein'd bits. I love your truck, even if it's temperamental (but I'm not the one that has to fix it), so not ripping on it at all

I feel like the point of a Prius is saving money. Buying a Lexus includes wasting $15k on a Lexus badge. Once they're really high-mileage, it doesn't matter, but all the CT200h's are new.

Don't know much about the Prius. My son was helping his girl friend look for a small used car to replace her Explorer and he said all of the Prius's he saw for sale needed a new battery pack which cost megabucks.

WHA? I have never seen that. I'm genuinely interested in the source of that information. I see lots of batteries for sale on CL, but few saying their car needs one.

I've heard about the battery pack issue to. They find out they could have bought a whole lotta gas for the money a new battery costs in 5 years. Rock auto has the battery listed for $2500 for a 2009 actually it less then that it is 1363 for the battery and 1083 core chage. That is a reman battery pack.

I heard that Sasquatch was real.

Seriously though, I'm looking for cold hard facts to back up these statements. I can't find any. I'm not saying I'm right here. If someone has some facts to show me the Prius is unreliable or the batteries die quickly, I want to see them. I can still sell this and consider something else.
