Skid Plate Pics

Can someone post photos of their stock skid plates? I think they are only on FX4 and Offroad package trucks. I would like to find a set for my truck but the yards I went to have been fruitless. Still, I'd like to see what they look like. My understanding from doing some searches is there is one over the gas tank, transfer case, and in front of the front differential. If I could see pics of each I'd really appreciate it.

thank you both. Glad I got an idea of how they look now.

Question regarding the gas tank plate: Does it use the same bolts as the straps that hold the tank up or does it bolt in another place? Obviously if it uses the same ones as the straps it would be more of a challenge to add them to my setup.

I see you're in Phoenixville. I'm in South Jersey right outside Philly. I don't suppose you're selling those skids? Know of any good junkyards in our area I could try my luck? I've turned up empty at Albion in Berlin and Shorty's in Williamstown.

P.S. it seems the size of the gas tank is slightly different depending on your model of truck i.e. regular cab, short bed, extended cab, etc. Is the gas tank skid universal?

Sorry...not selling them. Took pics before I installed them on my screw. I ended up finding them on craigslist...someone was parting out a truck. The front one was damaged in the accident so that is why I know how much it was from the dealer.

Tank skid bolts on separately from the tank...to the frame. If you take one off remember to get the hardware to attach it. Look for trucks with the "4X4 Off-Road" and "FX4" packages. If it just says "4x4" I don't believe they came with them...

Thanks. Found a guy on craigslist who definitely had the transfercase and gas tank one. He wants $50 for them. But he's all the way up in north jersey and that seems a little high to me anyway. Mind if I ask what you paid for yours?

If I remember right I paid $75...the tank plate retails for $225-$266 and the transfer case is another $40.

I picked up the skid plates today. He only had the 6 bolts for the fuel tank skid. Don't even have the nuts for it. Ugh. I took a look at the holes for how it attaches in the front. Looks like there are small holes for the bolt and then larger square holes nearby. Looks like it could be a challenge to attach the plate while holding the nuts together. Were the nuts that are OEM the type that have a clip that stay in place on the body? Or are they traditional nuts and just have to figure out how to manuever my arm to hold them while I put bolts in.

Do you recall if the bolts for the gas tank were the same as the front skid and torque converter skid? I would suspect they are but am curious.

All of the skid plates use speed nuts (the clip on kind). If you don't have bolts, or even if you do, I recommend you go out and buy all new bolts with matching speed nuts. All this can be found at Fastenal. I just removed all my skid plates, cleaned them up,. painted them and reinstalled with all new hardware... not hard to do if you just hold the pieces up and figure out what size bolts and nuts you need.

thanks. since you just bought new hardware do you have the packing list or a receipt of exactly what you bought? That would help me and anyone else who stumbles upon this thread in the future. Thanks.

They are 5/16" and are available at most auto parts stores...easy to get a hold of. Inserts thru the square hole and lines up on the round hole...if that makes sense?!?!

Thanks. I think mine are metric. I took a look at the 6 he gave me for the fuel tank. The head looks like it's 10mm and has a 9.8 stamped in it. The length is 4cm. Further it has the loose washer on it but can't come off because of the threads (if that makes sense).

Stopped at Ace Hardware last night. The clip u nuts are M8-1.25 pitch. I found it to be cheaper to buy the Dorman bolts (come in 4 packs) from the auto parts store (Advance, Autozone). I also grabbed some galvanized washers at Ace to put on the bolts as the new bolts don't come with the loose flange.
