My 2003 F150 Super Crew 4x4 is flaky. I can only get the 4x4 to engage if I switch it right after starting it.
If it is in 4x4 and I switch it off it disengages but then if I engage it again it will not engage. I don't even hear the solenoids clicking.
But if I put it in park and turn it off, then restart it and switch it to 4x4 I hear the solenoids clicking and it goes into 4x4.
Any ideas as to what could cause this?

It has the **** just to the right of the steering column.

 

I'm having problems with my 2003 Ford F 150 SuperCrew cab 4x4 I can't get it to go into 4 wheel drive at all the light indicator does not come on at all I do not hear no noise to indicate that it is going in at all I have power going to the first wire and the second wire and no power for the rest of the wires could it be the switch please I am desperate for help
