So this just happened out of the blue.. on the passenger side, every time the truck is started, there is this series of 5 "beeps" in a even cadence, which will repeat for exactly 5x, then stop. It does not affect anything, doesn't produce any CEL lights. Everything works fine on the truck.
I've had this truck for 10+ years and never heard this.
Is this some kind of secret signal?
A warning of something bad going to happen?
Come on, give me your best guess .....

Sorry for bothering everyone. It WAS in the owners manual, page 71.
There apparently is a problem with the SRS / Air Bag system.
Im sure the dealer will charge a fortune to diag this 'ol '97 and "find" all kinds of things to drain my Xmas wallet.

 

Replace the SRS light in dash first. Then, the bulb will flash your fault code(s).

 

Yep, airbag light went out...

 

Well, there are a couple of other bulbs that have gone out in the cluster as it is hard to see everything in the dash when it gets dark. However, with outside temps in the twenties, this all may just have to wait until the spring.
As long as it doesn't affect anything else, Ill live with the stupid chimes till then I guess.
