Doing some maintenance, want some advise

Deciding since its going to be descent out this weekend I would tackle my probably overdue maintenance to booger. Im going to pick up a can of MAF cleaner and do the MAF, Clean the throttle body and IAC valve (Use carb cleaner??) and MAYBE do the Gotts mod (if I get a wild hair up my azz). I already done the plugs, COPS, trans, rear, coolant ect. Anything else that shoud probably be done while im in there? Like noted above is it best to use carb cleaner for the throttle body and IAC valve? I want to get this all done before winter really gets hear because I wont be outside in the cold working on any type of auto lol.

Clean the throttle body with throttle body cleaner. Clean the IAC with WD-40 or Deep Creep.

You said you did the trans and rear, how about the transfer case and front axle? Power steering fluid?

Accessory belt. Bleed the brake lines until it's all fresh fluid. Suck out the PS fluid and replace with fresh.

Come over to my place and wax my truck! LOL!

Don't suck it, flush it, - its easy and works the best.

Usually I wouldn't recommend carb cleaner anywhere around THIS engine. It turns just about everything it comes in contact with back into basic molecules... But, there is a way you may benefit with an IAC cleaning with the stuff. IF,- your fast on the draw.

Hose the inside down w/CCleaner. Work the plunger two times quickly, -immediately blow out the IAC w/compressed air. Immediately follow up w/DeepCreep or WD. Work the plunger/blow it out/give it another squirt/done... You now have a new IAC. This is a somewhat privet procedure that works very well. I wouldn't spread it around, someone might think your nuts.

DON'T hose down the MAF. That isn't worth a snot, - seriously. Clean it by hand and rest the KAM. If you use good "DRY" filter media, won't have to worry about the MAF getting dirty.

What kind of plugs were installed, - be specific or we can't.

I will catch crap about the plugs I use but I use Autolite Platinum. I have had nothing but great luck with them in all my Fords. I never used them in my 04 but my 01 Screw and my mustangs seen only autolites. Now lets just say im not quick to do the IAC, whats the worst that can happen? Sounds simple enough. And roadie, Ill wax your truck, but you come over and cut these 36 trees I need cut down, split, and stack lol. Sounds like a pretty fair trade.... Heck Ill even supply the cough medicine haha

Right, although it may run on all eight for now, it will never be at potential with those plugs in it. It's been proven over and over in the 2 valve modular V8's. Nothing you can say will change that. Yea, I won't work on them when someone is asking for problems. I mean, the heat range is marginal at best, so what's the sense... Right?

Good Luck.

I never seen any performance difference from using motocraft plugs and switching to autolites. Ive ran my last set on my last f150 for 70k not one issue. COPs are a different story. Plugs, I dont see any type of change in performance and reliability.

put autolites in my 03 Kr After i decided to rinse off the engine at 70k . Ended up frying a few COPS. Decided since i was going to do all 8 cops might as well do the plugs. Got 80k out of em before i traded the truck in and it was running perfect. Needless to say i was a when it happened, Otherwise i would've went with the MC's and not power washed the engine

^ well there is the crap I was talking about. Since this is a big debate for the 2v I want to know what I am damaging running autolites? Maybe ill break down and put motocraft in if there if it is that bad to run a different type of plug but I just dont see it as ive never had issues in 100k with the other brand. What about COPs? Ive seen fellas run accel and other brands without one issue?

I think what jbrew is referring to is that plug performance can affect the COP life. I seem to recall that there is a problem with heat ranges in the Autolites with the 2v but I may be confusing it with 3v. Regardless, there is just very few problems reported with MC, but that does not mean you can't get good service with something else. For me, since the cost is close, I would stick to MC.

For best results, use Motorcraft or Visteon cops and Motorcraft plugs.

Wheres a good place to get either. Ebay has motocraft for 400+!!! OUCH. The Visteon brand are 199 free shipping. What about MSD? They have a very good rep. I used MSD for mod motors before with nothing but good things to say. Not sure about how they would stack up with the 5.4

Get the Visteons from Ebay. Visteon is European OEM Motorcraft.
