stalling out

stalling out

Hi I for a 97 f150 with the 5.4 and the e4od tranny and for some reason it stalls out when I put it in drive or reverse in the winter this happened last year but in reverse only and it's only happening when the truck is cold any thoughts ideas or anything would be helpful

IAC valves act up in the cold weather, pretty cheap and easy fix if that's it.

The IAC (idle air control) valve is on top of the throttle body.



Pull it, you can try cleaning it with WD-40, but they are reasonably inexpensive to replace.

Good luck, mine gave up late last winter and had to fix in the cold but was a fast fix

Another thing to consider is the Rubber 90 degree elbow at the end of your PCV hose that runs into the back of the intake manifold.

If this is the cause it's about $5 to fix.

If the PCV elbow is leaking it should be throwing lean codes.
