2000 ford f150 electrical issues

i have a 2000 ford f150 .. the very first thing i noticed was my wipers wouldnt come on, then they came on by themselves. The next day I went out to start her and the battery was dead, jumped her and she started but it was draining the battery still. Then the park lights came on when the key was out and no one in the truck, and the door chime was coming on with no keys in the truck, and there is a sizzling noise coming from under the dash, but no smell of anything burning. The gauges would go up on there own when the key was put in also.. I checked for leaks under the dash around the fuse box and GEM I dont see any indication of leakage. no blown fuses, checked and cleaned battery terminals, I took out the fuse box and gem im going to replace them with another set.... any suggestions if this does not fix the problem or am i looking in the wrong direction ??

GEM box info needed

i dont know if no one responded because im a woman... but........

i swapped out the GEM box and now the windshield wipers wont turn off and when you turn them on high the water comes on and wont go off.... other than that everything works perfect... i know that donor and recipient GEM boxes need to match but im wondering if the numbers under the made in canada, and just over the bar code need to match or just the part number at the top in bold and the series number ( like A B C D E F ) .... Anyone know ??

It wasn't because you're a woman as probably no one knew that. Had they known, you would be MORE likely to get attention. It's probably because no one had a good idea where to start.

Just make sure I understand. You get electricity flowing even thou the ignition is not on?????? As far as the door goes when you open it you get electricity going for it,, that's what that old pin they used to have on inside door jam. I see that where I work the vehicles they have are fords and a lot of them do that without the key,,, chime.

The flow of electric with out the key is werid,,, possibly has to do with ignition or the column or your left right turn signaler. The lights cant come on unless the switch is turned on,, headlight switch

On the GEM my guess as long as models match up your good. but with what you say it sounds like the turn signal,, or whatever it connects to???? is your problem.

A leak onto the GEM? That's the windshield, needs to be resealed.

As a former auto service writer, salesman, and tech, that statement used to (and still does) really bug me. You assume all men are chauvinistic, thus precipitating prejudice which you yourself are guilty of by your own statement.

Lets leave the prejudice on another board or thread.

Now... Congratulations on resolving the issue. If you have comprehensive insurance, tell them the windshield is leaking or chipped/cracked if it that's true, and have it replaced or resealed.

listen bub it is a proven fact that men dont talk to women about car issues, they think it is over our head, that we dont understand, and most times that we are incapable of fixing a car... might be chauvinistic or prejudice but its a fact along with a whole other list that they think we are incapable of doing. because its deemed "mens" work. Now ... i've found the leak it was at the very bottom of the windshield allowing water to seep into the dash, repaired and fixed !!!! thanks to all who took time to try and help... merry christmas to all

Congrats on getting it fixed.

So it's a proven fact that men don't talk to women about car issues? Didn't the men on this forum just tell you it was the windshield leaking? Stop limiting your potential by victimizing yourself.

Maybe your chastising me because I'm handicapped?

Not ALL men are like that! I work at an auto parts store, and deal with "helpless" women on a daily basis. When a woman comes in needing a headlight bulb changed....I change it, and SHOW her how it's done. Wipers.....I show her how it's done. Oil checked...I show her how to do it. I try to educate whomever I can. The bad part is, I've actually done this a few times while their sorry *** bf/hubby/whatever sat in the car.....THAT'S what pisses me off!

I read this thread and laughed a little. I'm glad you got it fixed. As for the male vs female thing. That's not completely true. I send my sister into the auto parts store for things to fix her truck. The ladies there do the same exact thing to her that men do.

I had an interview at AutoZone a few years back (no I don't work there). The manager specifically asked me, "Let's say a lady asks you to install a battery in her car and you happen to notice her boyfriend sitting in the passenger seat. Can you install the battery without saying something along the lines of, What's the matter? Does he not love you enough to do this himself?" I just about died laughing. The manager then told me, "I thought it was funny, he thought it was funny, unfortunately my boss doesn't have the same sense of humor we do."

Funny how the world works out. I ended up getting a job at a convenience store down the road from that A-Zone. Probably for the best anyway. The manager, her sister, and I went to High School together. 6 months in I was offered Assistant manager and turned it down. I'm now 1.5 years in as assistant manager and looking for "bigger and better things". Tech market just isn't there in my area.

Edit: I'm kinda giving these threads a once over to see what I may be up against with my truck.
