Engine Starting Issue

I'm having a problem with my 2001 4x4 Supercrew not starting until the truck cools down. This past weekend I pulled into a parking lot, shut my truck off & went into the store. Got back into the truck, turned the key & it wouldn't start. I let it sit for about 15 min then it fired right up. This has happened a few times already in the last few months. What can be causing this? It doesn't happen all the time but when it does it sucks. I replaced all the coils, spark plugs, pcv valve & fuel filter already.

Will it start if you hold the gas pedal to the floor? If so, you have one or more leaky fuel injectors.

Mine did that gas station last night. Turn the key, no crank, no click, but get all the normal bells and whistles in the cab. Just installed a new HD battery cable harness and Odyssey battery, so WTF.

No phone, no tools and had my slippers on. It was one of those quick trips up town and back. Well It was supposed to be.

Popped the hood and messed with the battery cables, Tight, but I moved them a bit, - nothing, - did it again nothing

Finally ripped the positive cable off, flipped it over and crammed it back on there. Fired right up.

Maybe you need to tell us whether it cranks and doesn't start, or doesn't even crank?

First thing I'd suspect is fuel system. Gotta get a fuel rail pressure reading when it does it.. if you haven't replaced your fuel filter in along time now would be a good time.. Sounds like an intermittent failing pump.

I replaced the fuel filter about a month ago. What causes a intermittent failing pump?

Old. Could be the pumps motor gets hot and it wont start up until its cool. Need a gauge to check it. That would be the first thing Id rule out. You can also listen for it during the no start. It cycles on for about 5 seconds and you should be able to hear it buzz. if its buzzing its probably ok if not its not..

Right, it's fairly easy to tell if its the pump or not. You just keep the window and listen for the pump to charge the lines. If it doesn't, - leave the key in "RUN" and hit the bottom of the tank w/hammer. If it comes to life, - it's the pump.

Old age mostly. They're usually good for 90,000 miles or so. Anytime after that...

Hell I can't hear the fuel pump come on when it's running normal. Today before I started the truck I turned the key just to see if I could hear the pump come on & didn't hear anything so I cranked it to see if it would start & it fired right up with no problems. Even while it was on I still couldn't hear the pump running. Maybe I just have bad hearing. Lol

Something! I can't recall a quiet pump with this generation. That's in the run position, engine off.

You need to go see Helga with big syringe. She'll flush those taters out for yuh..

Sometimes electronics fail when it gets hot. It would have to be common to all cylinders though. Check the fuel pressure first.

It only runs for a few seconds. Less then 5. Try standing next to the filler with the cap off and your ear close while a helper turns the key. Youll hear it then unless your really deaf. Then let the helper listen. once the engine starts you cant hear it over that. Get a gauge if all else fail. That dose not lie,
