Up until today it would set an idle fine but now every once in a while
it will have a short spell when it has a miss in it not real bad.

But every now and then while setting at idle it will almost die but then it idles back up to about 1800 rpms then a short time later drops back to a normal 700 rpm.

My sons scan tool does not have a trap function.

Talked to one of the ford tech's at the local dealership he told me to
to hook a fuel pressure gauge up to it and watch it at idle and see if the pressure drops when it almost dies he said if it drops it may need a fuel pump.

My son and I put an after market fuel pump on it about 3 years ago but I guess it could need another one.

He is coming by this evening with a fuel pressure gauge and we shall see.

If we don't find it by Friday I am taking it to Ford.

Wish me luck!

I sure wish my truck was as easy to work on as our drag car!!!!!

On my way home yesterday it died and would not restart so a friend towed be home took like 5 minutes and guess what it started just fine.

Still no codes!

Fuel pressure looks good.

I give up it's going to the dealership after work today.

Thanks for all the help.

I will come back and let you all know what they find.

Went by the dealership after work yesterday they did a fuel pressure check and found no problem.

Hooked up the scanner and found no codes so they took it for a drive with the scanner the first thing it showed was a mis fire on #4 cyl. then it down shifted an showed a shift solenoid fault, mass air sensor fault then it died. When it died it showed just about everything on the truck had a fault.

So they thing something is faulting out the PCM and it's shutting the truck down.

They said lets fix the misfire on #4 so they are going to put a COP and a plug on #4 and then see what happens.

They said the COP could be causing the PCM to shut down.

What do you all think.

Thanks

They are easy to work on.. There is a simple learning curve. Once you get used to them they are very simple, easy to work on. You need to start out with basic OVERDUE maintenance, I like to change my plugs I change all my coils but that is optional. Bare minimum change the boots and replace the coil in the cylinder that is misfiring. Remove your throttle body and clean it real good removing the IAC and either clean or Replace it. I would replace it if I were you. Oxygen sensors are due for replacement. Get a new ford PCV. Change your fuel filter.Clean your MAF! Thats basic maintenance that is over due on a 11 year old truck with 130k miles.
Also sound s like your dealing with a connection issue. Check and clean all connection paying attention to the main starter wire that corrodes in winter snow conditions especially in places that use lots of road salt but I've seen it happen in California..

You reported a significant piece of info with a lot of codes set.
Pull fuse #23.
Be sure it's good and reseat it and check for intermittent voltage on it's output side. .
If it goes open a lot of of codes will set.
You may still have other issues along with it.
Good luck.

It's alive, picked it up after work yesterday the verdict was the COP on #4 cylinder.

While they had it I had them change the plugs for $200 I just did not want to mess with it.

Got it home and changed the oil & filter also put a new air filter in.

Thanks for all the help you all.
