A few issues with my 98

Hey guys I have a few issues regarding my 98 F150. I got it from a guy a few months ago and he neglected to tell me about some issues and well being in need of a truck didn't notice them. First off this is a 98 xl xcab long bed. The motor was swapped from the 4.6 to the 5.4. I'm randomly getting bank 1 and bank 2 lean codes. Could this have anything to do with them swapping the motor and perhaps not flashing the computer? Also the heater core hose has been cut and looks like it was rerouted. I have no heat or defrost. The odo and trip don't work. He said a friend of his tried to roll back the odo and broke it, again possibly due to the computer? Ive swapped the gauge cluster and that didn't fix the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

From what your saying you bought half a mess.
Your lucky it runs at all.
Of course there will be no heat if the heater core is not hooked up.
What reason is the heater not hooked up is the question!
Heater core leaks or is plugged?
The codes are indicating an air leak into the intake after the mass air meter.
Can't tell you anything about the dash gauges not working.
This being a swap anything is possible.
To many things would only be guesses. Refer back to first line.
Good luck.

lol yeah but i love a good challenge . It does have an aftermarket intake on it and he mentioned something about spraying carb cleaner on the MAF and that takes care of any issues (unsure but sounded like the ramblings of an idiot)

I don't think you're suppose to use carb cleaner on the maf sensor. I believe it leaves residue.. Try using the actual maf sensor cleaner itself..

- your correct lol. The MAF wires (if still secure) are probably covered in a sort of,- melted plastic residuedue. Since that's what holds the rods in place.

Come on , -It doesn't even look like a carburetor, does it?

You sure that's a 5.4L? I realize a swap was done, but when you do that, normally the 5.4L Body and elbow are used. Yea, the 5four and 4six are quite different on top. Different elbows, TB's, vacuum connects and EGR parts. The 5fours EGR valve is much larger than the 4sixes.

The Coil Pacs are fine, - this is the first time I've seen a 4six top end on the 5four tho. Not only that, it's missing a few parts lol.

That's a mess for sure, a fixable one, but I'd go thru it, to see what other hidden surprises that may fly out at yuh. lol.

Man i don't need to hear that lol. Went to get her smogged today only to find out that intake doesn't have an EO and they couldn't smog it. So i went to the junk yard and picked up a stock intake and ill have to hook that up for smog, then i might just do the gotts mod and keep the stock but im unsure. Oh well at least im starting to feel a bit better about the car and all of its problems i traded for this truck lol

I just took off the aftermarket intake and went back to stock (pain in the *** to find a complete system). So now it passed smog. On to trying to figure out the heater core issue. Should i try to reconnect the hose and see what happens?

No, disconnect the firewall hose and blow thru it, the other one. Not very hard just enough figure out if it's plugged. Pressure test it, listen for leaks. Yea, don't run coolant thru it yet, - it's most likely toast.
