truck bed panel got broken

The other day a teenager hit my truck on the left side of the rear end. I would say about a square foot is missing from the bottom.

My question is, do I have to replace the whole bed or can I just replace the panel?

I've been told the whole bed since the panels are fiber glass. Would like an experts say.

Thanks in advance.

Won't his insurance cover a professional repair?

Unfortunately he has no insurance but he is willing to pay me for the repairs cash. Right now I'm just trying to go the cheapest route cus I'm sure he will not be able to afford a professional repair.

FWIW, I found out the hood is also fiberglass cus my flashlight magnet didn't want to stick to it the other day. New owner of a ford truck here

Will see what is my best option to do.

Aren't all 2003 f150 truck beds fiberglass?

The hood is actually aluminium, only the flareside and supercrew beds are fiberglass. I would try to find one in a junkyard. They actually unbolt from the truck bed. Nothing but hand tools is required to remove the whole bedside.

Nope. Mine is steel. It might only be the s.crews and the flareside trucks. I'm not sure. As far as the repair, I doubt you can by sperate panels on the bed. I believe its one whole piece.

Check the LMC truck catalog. I'm sure you'll find the panels there.

On your truck that fiberglass panel bolts on. It it not very hard at all. Look into just getting that panel at a yard. If you can find one in the YZ paint code and charge him time and material.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

I found a junk yard that is going to sell me the whole bed for 450 delivered to my address.

It is a different color but I'm ok with that cus I was planing on painting the truck anyways.

I may take some pictures along the way and post them here.

I would charge the guy to have it painted too. Pisses me off when people drive with no insurance.

Yes the panels come off. At the top of the bed side there are like three small bolts (hidden under the plastic), on the back like two, in the middle like another two, and in the wheel well a bunch of small ones.

I'm amazed how simplistic the whole thing seems. So delicate and fragile. Is that why male car enthusiasts call cars “she”...fragile and good looking .

The whole truck bed is held by 6 bolts. Two people can lift the whole truck bed easy.

On the plus side the truck bed that I bought is line-x plus it came with the tail gate too.

Cars are so fragile .

now time to pretty her up some more. Lower the back..etc...but mostly focusing more on a good sound system plus the paint job. Maybe a JL slash 500/1 for a jl 12w7 for bass. Is going to be tricky trying to fit a box for it though and paint the truck black.
