1999 rear dif

Hi all, I just bought a 1999 f150 4.6 auto 4x4 for 2500.00 dollars an so far so good, however the rear dif is noisy. I am going to do the pinion bearings and offset axle bearings, but at the same time I would like to install a limited slip carrier i have from a 1994 Explorer(F150 is non limited slip or open). is the carrier the same? will it fit? they are both 8.8 and 31 spline. thanks.

Should fit ok.
Be sure you fully understand how to set the whole thing up for side to side shims, pinion to ring gear contact and back lash clearances plus the crush sleeve setting, before you begin.
Tools needed are caliper, dial indicator and it's mount and torque wrench.
Limited slip additive for the clutches.
BTW the S spring for the limited slip can be bitch to get back in. Don't use the open rear spring. They are different in pressure exerted on the clutch packs.
Good luck

Hi. this was easy, replaceed both axle bearings(repair type) and installed limited slip carrier( from a parted out 1992 Explorer) in 3 hours, even had an nice contact area(using white grease) and much quieter.

Congratulations! It's not such an easy job for a novice. You've got some serious skills in your back pocket!
