wont start
wont start
hey guys..here is my problem.
I have a 2002 fi50 supercrew.. 5.4 triton
I had to replace my six year old battery the other day and ever since doing this the truck wont start unless i unhook the positive cable from the battery for about thirty seconds, put it back on the battery and then it starts... i notice that when I turn the truck off that the odometer light stays on but shows alot of dashes. sometimes the check engine light and the oil light stay on also..I keep good maintenance on it and the oil is not the problem..someone at the auto parts store said that something is whack about my security system( i got the truck brand new so there are no aftermarket things added) also I have noticed that sometimes when Im driving, the check engine light will flash real fast for about 30 seconds and then just stay on..I am no guru with this stuff, so I need some advice from people who know what they are talking about..I have read stuff in this forum for years and seen the great advice most of you are giving..but this is my first time actually asking for help...any help is definitely appreciated guys..

Several things;
1) NEVER disconnect the positive cable to un-power the vehicle. Always disconnect the NEGATIVE cable first and, if reconnecting, do the negative connection last. It is a safety issue.
2) There is nothing wrong with your starter relay on the firewall. If the starter cranks, the relay is fine unless it's hanging. The PCM relay, on the other hand....
Are you getting any other symptoms, for example, stalling or misfiring when you get the check engine light flashing?
Have you checked for codes? (Do NOT disconnect the battery after a check engine incident, it will erase any fault codes).
Besides having the battery replaced, was anything else done like a test of the charging system?
What part of the country are you in (city and state)? Been raining a lot before the problem appeared?
