5.4 power

Can anyone give me some ideas and thoughts to get more power out my 02 5.4? I am going up against a friend with a 8.1 Chevy and I believe it is an 01. Any and all ideas are appreciated. Thanks

Ask him how much he spends keeping that POS on the road. You'll beat him there.. 5.4 vs 8.1 you'd have to get a supercharger to beat him.

I work for a chevy dealer, I don't think your friend's 8.1 will beat you. If it was a duramax, I would worry. I found with my former 99 5.4, adding longtube headers, true dual 2.5 exhaust, with a tune will really woke the truck up - especially mid to top end. Throw on some e-fans and that old 8.1 will be eating your dust. The 8.1 is a good torque engine, like the 6.8 v10... they make good power but don't go anywhere fast.

Yup, buddy of mine has an 8.1 Avalanche and another has a 6.0 Avalanche. Both are 4wd and they race and it's a dead heat every time. The 5.3 isn't much slower.

Do long tubes and you'll beat him, otherwise you'll be slower. I had a 2000 Suburban with a 5.3 and I still think it's faster than the 06 5.4 I have now. Just my thought. However, why would you do mods just for a race? Do it because you really want to for every day!

Start driving with a heavy foot now, before race day. The PCM's adaptive strategy will learn your habits and make it perform better. Go and practice your launch. Try to get get going as fast as you can without spinning the tires. Lower your rear tire pressure to 25 psi for the race.

If I remember correctly. Do 6 1/4 mile passes to get the computer into adaptive learn to recalibrate the PCM. I drive mine like a bat out of hell all the time so mine is good to go...lol
