Back from the Dark Side...

Well, after 12 years and 184,000+ miles I finally decided to replace the Bosch +4 plugs...

Got some Motorcraft SP-459's AGSF22FSM for it..

Jbrew has been curious about them since I have not had any of the issues that seem to plague others that have used this product over the years...

Well, they came out just fine and looked pretty good for how long they have been in there... Still a PITA to get to them on the 5.4, but I got 'em all!

The new MC's went in fine and the old 5.4 fired right up.

Still running the 'oil rag' drop in filter, so I'm not completely back yet!

Right, you took a BIG chance and lucked out. Congrats! Nope, - I'm not that crazy lol. Since the Bosch+4 series are plagued with an unpredictable heat range for the modular engine. -In which they may over heat and literally fall apart inside the cylinder. Yea, I never wanted any part of that or would suggest it to my worst enemy. I have some scruples lol.

Do you have any pics Mitch ? Or how about the exact part number. Perhaps, there's a revision date to look for.

I hear ya brew... One reason why I went back to the MC's... Just felt better getting the MC parts, as over the last 12 years, that's what I've been doing and have been very pleased with the various parts.. A bit more $$ from the dealer, but what the heck... At least I know who to blame if they do F up..

Full disclosure on this pic... I was very surprised to find a MC plug on # 4..... About 8 years ago I lost the coil on # 4 and due to time restrictions and not having any time to deal with it, I took it to the dealer when I had a misfire code pop up and had them fix it...

They said they replaced the coil, but didn't say they replaced the plug too.... Anyway, it's had this MC plug in # 4 for the last 8 years at least.. The +4's are 12 years old, but that's why there is a single MC in this pic.

The +4's are part # 4459 and made in Germany if that makes any difference?

I got these plugs before finding this site back in 2001 and was scared to death with all the other 'issues' people had with their F150's.. I completely expected to eject a plug at any momnent and to have my door crack split the door in half and to have any number of other things happen!

I treat this like a truck, but don't 'beat' on it... I tow a TT during the Summer months and load the bed with stuff and drive the thing...

Anyway brew, you know me by now... I don't always go with the flow, yet in this case, I did feel much better going back to the MC's..

Thanks for the info Mitch. For some reason, all I have left in the Bosch file is pictures. Not sure what happen to all the info I had on the matter ? Dangit! Probably on another hard drive I expect.

I'm glad you didn't have any problems. Those plugs are WHITE! No worries tho, I've seen plenty like that come from these engines. Even the Motorcraft plugs have came out like that. It won't hurt it, it's lean, but NOT dangerously lean. The color is fairly close to normal IMO.

Motorcraft will serve you better my friend.
