Waterproof the bed?
Waterproof the bed?
I carry a lot of music equipment, moving down to Nashville at the end of the summer, for music. And was wondering, what's the best cover for waterproofing the bed?
My neighbor just got a new 2013 Silverado 1500, a NICE spray on bedliner and a nice Truxedo tonneau cover, and he says it stays bone dry back there. He carries some expensive clubs back there and has no problems.
Anyone have experience getting a completely dry bed with our trucks? Any covers you'd suggest for a 6' flareside?
Forgot to mention, I have a drop in plastic liner. Not sure if I should keep it in or not. It's in good shape though.

I have a bedrug in mine and a ARE cover. Unless you can seal every gap up most covers will have leak areas. With a standard bed cover you will still have water seeping by the edges and underneath the tailgate edge even with a cover. I get very, very light moisture at the very back edge if it rains and I`m driving but the rest of my bed stays dry with the cover. I keep stuff in there all the time though and have had no issues.....
I'll check out an ARE cover. And the shell covers seem like a good idea for weatherproofing, but seems like a problem if you ever need to throw something tall back there. I would like a bed rail cover. But if i found a good deal on a shell, I'd try it.
Here's what I have now. It's an old Truxedo cover. But the clamps holding it to the bed rails SUCK. And it leaks up front. I don't mind a little moisture in the back, since I'll keep everything towards the front of the bed.
You can see my ghetto duct tape job that helped, but didn't stop it all.

Like I said above I have the ARE Z series. Its contoured to fit the truck and also overlaps the rails on the bed. Its has seals on all contact areas on bed and glass door is sealed also. The only place when driving I have a little moisture get in is at the tailgate. The cover offers no seals on the vertical gaps on the tailgate itself but its very minimal and not enough to worry about. I keep stuff in the back 24x7 and have had no issues at all with the elements. It can be removed fairly easy if needed for extra large items but I also have a trailer for that..

I also haul fragile large stuff in there a bunch too. Here is one of my saltwater reef tanks I was moving a few yrs ago in it....6ft long .....Bedrug is padded which is a plus.....
