could be bad gass. run some fuel injector cleaner in it. Clean your IAC valve also.

I'd do a fuel pressure check.................your fuel pump may have one foot in the grave and the other foot on a banna peel.........

grandma's 97 F150 with the 4.6 engine was doing the same thing, it only did the it sluggish thing once but when the outside temp went up and you did some stop and go errands, you could count on being stranded or at least sitting for 15 minutes to a half hour. Then it got to the point where when we had a really hot day (105 and up) it wouldn't start at all. I borrowed a fuel pressure testing kit from Oreilly's and found there was no pressure. I also crawled under and had Nana turn the key to the on position so I could hear the pump and it wasn't running. I had a couple of guys recommend Carter as a good replacement and I found one at rockauto.com for $142 (the Ford dealer wanted $425 plus $225 labor). Ordered it at 2PM one day and it was at the Post Office before noon the next day! I slid the bed back a couple of feet, my shoulders are not up to overhead work. It was time consuming but an easy job.
