shift problems

My 97 F-150 is not shifting out of park. I turned truck on and off repeatedly to no avail. Finally, frustrated, I stomped on and off brake pedal and released the shifter. Is there something in the brake pedal that tells the shifter to shift out of park? Other ideas?

Yes there is something that tell the truck that the pedal is pressed and ok to shift out of park. called the shift interlock Could be bad.

Can always block the wheels. Take off cable from trans and move it by hand to make sure its not a trans problem.

I used the info from My location and truck.

Thanks. I'll look into the shift interlock and cable.
