Need more HP
Need more HP
Well I have a 01 7700 series. All the goods for towing excet the power. Dont get me wrong the 5.4 does its job but this yr when I go to get coal I am going to need some more power. What are some good options for the 5.4 that is safe from me blowing my motor? Its got 3.73 gears and 4r100 with 10.25 rear. Should have no issues in those departments.
Gears would be a big torque increase but also around 2 grand installed. I would say to buy a tuner. Not sure if youve done it or not but a GOTTS mod would also free up some hp and thats practically free. Have you done any mods to your truck ?
What's your mechanical aptitude? If the 5.4 is lower mileage, you can pull it, clean it, sell it, and wedge a V10 into the truck with little to no extra cash. Mine tows really nice.
You guys knew I was going to say that, right?

Yeah I would love to stuff a V10 in it buttttttt I just bought a house so you know where all my money is going. I believe tires are 245/75/16? Somewhere in that area. 3.73 gears in it now. I see a bunch of post about this Gotts mod, whats this and whats intailed going about this?

Is no one listening to this man. Every one keeps suggesting gears, boost, or other expensive mods. I agree that 4.56 gears would be a night and day difference for him but unless he is going to do the job himself hes lookin at about 2 grand. Regaurdless of current tire size I wouldnt go to a 4.10 from a 3.73. That just seems like a waste of money and a disappointment waiting to happen. Thats why I suggested the GOTTS mod which is practically free, or a tuner for about 300-400. You could also throw some shorty headers on it which would compromise some low end torque but increase mid range HP. Also a new throttle body or adding a throttle body spacer would free up some cheaper power, I would also suggest running a bottle of Lucas tune up in a bottle through the gas tank. Doesnt really increase power but it would clean out your injectors and upper cylinders and restore lost power. Unfortunately, Ford didnt really leave us a whole lot of room for HP gains without dropping serious cash.
I see in your sig you only have 110k on the truck. You could easily sell that 5.4 and buy a V10. The only issue is downtime on the truck and the cost of band-aids and the tuner - which you could probably use on your existing 5.4.
Oh, and I still have no cruise control, so I can't help you out with that if you go V10.
Shootstuff my hat is off to you sir. Dropping a V10 in a F150 is simply genius. Your absolutely right too, the demand for 5.4's is pretty high and a low mileage one would sell easily. Im sure with gas prices a V10 would be easy to acquire and not too expensive. I could handle losing my cruise control to gain 2.2l of displacement over my 4.6.
You get what you pay for, if you want extra torque and horsepower, it aint cheap....a programmer would be alright but i would go with a custom tune, also...dont waste your time on headers or exhaust...unless you just want "sound"....gears and a lightning supercharger would just be awesome, but a lot of coin
