In december my belt broke because one the the pullies froze up. I couldn't get anyone to tow me home, so I just drove it, keeping an eye on the temp guage. I made it home ok, but ever since I have a burnt smell when I turn the heater on. After it runs awhile it goes away. Would changing the coolant(flushing it) help?

 

What does it smell like? Could be rubber stench just lingering in your vents. Maybe check your heater core for a leak if it smells like coolant or mayber you rad?

 

I'm not losing any coolant. I figured maybe the coolant was boiling in the heater core when it wasn't circulating. But months later you would think it would be gone(the smell).

 

It is possible you burnt up the coolant. I hate the smell of burnt anti freeze from doing exactly what you did years ago and having to deal with that smell for ohh 20 miles and a few hours.

 

Did changing it make the smell go away?

 

When I did it it was in a 96 F150 but yes it went away. Took me a while to figure it out. At first I thought it was just from antifreeze leaking on to the headers. But if it hit over 220 degrees or so, which mine did, I would flush the whole cooling system out. That fluid is shot. Hope this helps you out buddy.
