manual shift on the floor, I can move the shifter, but nothing happens, it stays in 2h. anyone have any ideas what this could be? Is there an electric shift motor still? i'm so confused! please help guys!
got it shifting, changed the vss sensor and for some reason it will shift now? why? i do not know. but, in clunks and jerks in 4x4 hi and lo, like as if it is skipping? does this t-case have a chain?
Just so you know, the manual shift t case is a mechanical shift transfer case. It is either engaged or it is not. Playing with the VSS did not change anything. You may have knocked or re-positioned something but the sensor working had nothing to do with it. Was the 4x4 light illuminating when shifting? The GEM has to see the shift for it to engage the front axle. If it doesn't it will not engage the front axle and it will feel like the shift did not occur. There is a switch on the front of the t case near the breather. It is this switch that tells the GEM that a shift has occurred. If this switch is defective the GEM doesn't see the shift. So the next time you feel that the t-case is not shift do the following. Check to see that the 4x4 light is on. If not the switch is most likely not working. If it is on lift and support the front so the front wheels are clear of the ground. Shift into 4x4 and put transmission in Park. Then try to turn the front drive shaft. It should not turn to indicate a properly functioning t case. If it doesn't turn the front axle needs to be looked at. There is a vacuum activated shift motor on the axle that engages the front axle. Check the plastic lines for cracks.

thanks, for the info guys, and the light went on even when it wasn't shifting. Now I just need it to stop skipping and jerking, is the chain stretched? can I get a new one? where? how much would it cost approximately?
