Which transmission do you have now? Is it 2wd or 4wd?

2w transmission? What's that supposed to mean?

1. 2wd or 4wd?
2. Automatic or manual transmission?

There really isn't any way to get a significant power increase out of a 4.2 without forced induction.

Is there a reason you need to do an overhaul? If it's still running well and quiet I'd simply do the normal preventative maintenance and keep running it. When it finally dies, get a truck with a bigger engine.

Well if you wanted more power etc.. I would just wait and buy a truck w/ bigger engine. Like the 4.6 v8 or 5.4 v8. A complete overhaul of a 4.2 at 300k is getting risky as the engine is getting tired. That's a lot of miles. For the amount you would be putting in, it would be close to the same price for a new engine and trans.

If you wanted to continue anyways...

If you wanted to stay v6 as mentioned you are limited to only the 4.2 v6 and the 4r70w transmission if you wanted to stay automatic. You could do a manual swap but would be a pain.

I am not trying to discourage you from doing it. It's your money, I would just upgrade the engine and trans as a whole. (Only true method of gaining substantial horse power)
