Drl
Just fyi in case you're in Canada fordpaul66 and unaware, you can't legally disable them here. They are required by law on all equipped vehicles (any made after December 1, 1989 for Canada). Surprising how many are "broken" though.
No such law for the US, yet, as far as I know. I'm curious though, why do you want to get rid of them?

Here is a write up on how to disable them:

My 99 had them and it was the first thing I did when I got the truck.
Edit: overlooked that your truck is a 98, guess its not as easy to do as on the 99+ trucks.

Thanks for the replies.
I'm in the UK so no problem there.
A couple of reasons behind disabling them.
The handbook says that they should not come on if you have the parking brake on, without the engine running. Mine are on as soon as I turn the ignition on.
My son sat in the truck the other day with the radio on for some time and almost ran the battery down.
The other reason, probably tiny, is to try and take any un-necessary load off the motor to help fuel economy.
