Crank, No Fuel

1999 5.4L Sitting for a while, cranks no start. Pulled fuel filter off, turned key to run no fuel coming from line. I replaced the fuel relay, and looked at the inertia switch, looks correct. How can I test with meter. Where to start, can I test somewhere to see if pump is getting power? I don't even hear it try to pump

Try banging on the gas tank with your hand or a rubber mallet, see if that gets the pump running.

EDIT: Did you check the fuel pump fuse?

I checked all fuses and relays that correspond to fuel anything. Didnt know how to test relay so I just replaced it. Will try the banging on tank idea. Will let ya know

Banged the tank, nothing. Have the tank almost all the way out right now. There is a 4 wire connector going to fuel pump, how I can test this to see if I can get the pump to turn on?

You have to bang on the tank with the key in the run position.

You first need to understand some operational facts.
If you have the THEFT feature called PATS it maybe preventing fuel if thre is an issue.
Next, the fuel pump would run about 2 seconds then shut off before cranking.
Pump restarts at cranking.
The computer provides a ground to a relay.
The relay provides power to the pump from a fuse, it's contacts and through the crash sensor..
Point is know these things before wildly beginning to look for voltage that may not be there by design or fault.
First thing to do is check for fuel pressure build up a the fuel rail.
Use gage and cycle the ignition to run several times to see if in fact the pump is working.
Why people dive for the filter right away is a mistery.
They never fully block up just setting.
If the truck has set a long time, the gas goes bad to the point it may not support combustion and could freeze the pump up with gum from the additives.
.
Now that you have the tank down and access to the pump, put a meter on the pump leads, then turn the key to run.
You should see a voltage for a short time proving the relay is being operated and passing power to the pump leads.
It leaves the pump as the problem if power is there.
Good luck.

LOL! I had already checked for pressure at the valve, gauge shows BIG 0. Had checked the inertia sensor, was not tripped. How can I test for voltage at the inertia sensor, to eliminate at least 1 side of the circuit? The fuel filter needed replaced anyways truck has been sitting for over a year, so at least this way when the fuel pump does kick in, if it ever does I will see fuel spilling out.
