Should I sell it?
Should I sell it?
Well, new to this forum, but curious to get some opinions from other F150 owners.
I have a 1998 XLT supercab (2wd) that I'm thinking about selling. Trucks in great condition for its age - 130k miles, body is in great shape with the exception of a dent where a tire blew out on me. Interior is is excellent shape, it runs like a top, and I only drive it on weekends for biking and fishing trips. Unfortunately, we take an 800 mile trip each year and my wife gets very nervous about the truck breaking down w/ the boat attached. I am handy enough to be able to replace window lift motors, third doors that don't open, but mechanically, I'm not too great. I tend to think the truck's gonna be fine, but her stress quickly becomes mine on those long trips.
What would you do? I can sell it (and my primary car) and get a '10, or I can hold onto it and hope it makes it.

Though a 2010 would be nice...
If it is mechanically sound (mechanic could check it out for you). I would keep both vehicles since it's probably not costing you much to keep it around, especially with how little it sounds like it's driven.
Plus I bet your car gets better mileage.

I have a 99 XLT with 198K and would not be afraid to drive it anywhere hauling a boat. These are good trucks and as long as you take care of issues as soon as they arise and do the preventive maintenance. it will last you a lot longer. I know there are some guys with over 300K on their trucks.
Plus with the help of this forum there is nothing that you can't repair. The folks on this site are amazing, intelligent, and are servants in their own way when it comes to helping out those of us who are "shade Tree" mechanics just looking to save a little money. Which in today's economy is priceless.
At the end of the day it is your choice to sell a good truck on a newer unknown, but for me when I had to make this decision I've chosen to save my money and keep driving ole blonde.
