Couple of questions
Couple of questions
Hi guys, I have looked around for a bit and have not found really what I was looking for. I bought some towing mirrors for my 4.2 off eBay and I quite like them... Too bad all the guys at work laugh now because the truck seems too low to have them. I have seen pictures of the v8's with these mirrors and they look great. I was thinking of putting some v8 coil springs from the 97-03 4.6's into my 4.2 but am not sure if it would fit or cause any problems (AFAIK the v8 coils are taller than the v6's by 2 inches or so). I saw coil spring block kits on eBay also but have been told it causes control arm problems.
Secondly, I was in an accident (my fault) and got my hands on a black stock looking bumper for the 4.2. I would like to know if I could bedline it to match it with the rear chrome one (bed line both). Do you guys think it would look ok? I have seen a few people do it. Only on the 4.6/5.4's though.
If any of you guys know what I could do to gain 2 inches or so that would be great. I am a college student and don't have a ton of money to throw into it.
Thanks,
Phil
- I will upload a pic of my truck after I get back from work.

I don't anticipate doing a lot of towing, as much as I'd like to it could be a while before I get the toys that need trailering
However, I was looking at (hmm, the link won't work) the K Source Custom Towing Mirrors on the etrailer.com site as serviceable, stylish, and easy to pop on and off. Fair price too.
There is a thread or two (or more) here all about bedliner treatment of other bits of the truck
One just recently...
...hmm, for some reason that link won't work either
Ah well, have a look in the recent topics for Bed Liner on Chrome Bumpers.

Ok. Thank you. I just got these mirrors at 170 bucks so I would rather not get new ones.. -- I will go ahead with the bed-liner of both front and rear bumper. Any clues about the suspension though?
Iirc the springs are the same length, just different spring rates. So the v8 springs on a v6 will lift you roughly 1-1.5". You don't need aftermarket control arms unless you plan to go over 2".
Awesome! I am really glad to hear that. I might bring them to the shop to get them thrown in. I've never done any suspension work on my own besides shocks. I would rather not try to remove the spring. Can anyone else confirm that I can just drop in v8 shocks from a 5.4 1999?
Thanks,
Phil

Yea, I wish I could remember which member I sold them too, he could give you a more exact idea of the height you'll get. I wanna say he said he got a little more than an inch but I'm not completely sure off the top of my head since its been about a year now haha.
As for install it's not hard, it'll take a couple hours with basic handtools. Oh and if everything else up front is stock like balljoints and tie rods, it'd be a great time to have it all done with an alignment since the front end will have to be taken apart anyways ha.
