Tow a 5th wheel with on 02 fx4???

I bought an 03 silverado 2500HD ext cab 4x4 gas.Thanks for all the responses

What was good about this thread is the need to understand towing vs the application and not to go into an overload or unsafe situation by not fully understanding the complete picture better.
Good you made the choice to go bigger even if it wasn't another Ford.
Good luck and enjoy it with a whole lot less worry.

Before anyone slams you for buying a Chevy - I have a friend that towed a 41 foot 5th wheel toyhauler with a 2500HD with a gas 8.1. It was WAY WAY over limits, but it didn't break. However, it got about 5 mpg when towing.

They finally got worried and got rid of the Chevy before it collapsed and replaced it with a F-450.

One thing about the external appearance of the "sterling " rear axle housing. The 150hd/7700 or ld250 housings are basically a semi floating 10.25/10.5 sterling housing but have 9.75 inch ring gears in them. The full 250 super duties have the same appearing housing but with full floating axles in it. Also the 250sd has bigger better brakes and 8 lug verses 7 lug wheels.
