door cylinders - to replace or not...

2001 Ford SuperCab 4x4. Truck was broken in to about 18 months ago. I've been using the FOB keyless to get into the truck. I took the tumblers/cylinders out after the breakin. I'm debating putting them back in versus just leaving them out. The only problem is that should the FOB battery die or should the battery die, I have no way to get into the truck. I've considered the keypad entry swap also. I don't like the idea of replacing the tumblers again only to have them broken into yet again.

Anyone else thought about this? Thanks

Dave

I dont know, Where do you live? I leave my doors unlocked with the windows down, sometimes running. But i live in a small town, where everyone knows everyone. lol I would put the tumblers back in, but the key pad on my truck is nice, when i go hunting, i just look my keys in the truck, instead of the old way of finding a hiding spot. i hate un needed items that tend to make noise while hunting. and that is about the only time i lock up.

I went to the junkyard and pulled two cylinders and two matching red handles. that cost me $42. A locksmith made the cylinders match my key for $70 and I did all the other work. I dont figure $112 plus my labor is too bad considering the dealer wanted $350+ for the same job. Now I have to figure out if i want an alarm on it or what. Anyway, hope this helps someone out in the future.
