Front End Noise on a 2002 FX4

I have a 2002 FX4 that has started making a funny sound from the front end. At low speeds it sounds like a baseball card in the spokes of a bicycle, at high speeds its a pronounced roar. It is inaudible from outside of the cab.
Along with the sound comes a slight vibration, which you can feel through the gas peddle. Funny enough, if I change lanes or go around a corner, the sound stops until the wheels are straight again...
Any Ideas as to what this could be? I'm looking to avoid taking it into the shop if at all possible.
Some info that might help:
In the three weeks prior to the sound starting, I did the following work on it:
Replaced front Brake pads, left and right.
Replaced Battery.
Replaced Alternator.
Also, the car has been making a funny metallic vibrating sound intermittently, the sound does not appear to be connected to ANY function of the vehicle, and there is no telling when it will happen, it can happen at idle, or it can happen at highway speeds, it is LOUD and is the one sound audible from outside the vehicle. Like a Metallic "WhhaaWhaa".

Any ideas about whats going on would be greatly appreciated.

Did you go back and check everything again from when you did the brakes?

Also check wheel bearings.

The roaring could be a hub bearing assembly.
