running a hotter thermostat? we did on our 76 (yea i know its an entirely different motor, but we had this issue before. puked coolant all over. Changed it to stock and solved it.

Hmm I don't remember what thermostat is in there. But I do know the one I picked up has 195 in part Number, never did occur that I should instruct what temperature I want... possible its a 195 also

One more thing to consider. Your radiator may be plugged. I personally havent seen one plug, but i have heard it happed several times.

I'm not sure it was plugged, but I did have a small leak on inlet side tank, just enough to smell.


Related question, does anyone know what size fittings are used for the transmission cooler? Specifically the fitting on the cooler line itself.

My recommendation to anyone trying to chase a heating/cooling problem is install a real temp gauge. Just get an el cheapo from autozone. Super cheap and will serve its purpose for trying to figure out what's up. Also, blowing all the coolant out of the tank can sometimes not be overheating...can be a pressure problem.

If we're going to touch on pressure issues, what would cause the "soft plug" block heater to launch itself when being tightened in properly? Had 2 do that (gave up on that crap!)
