Need a engine

I have a 99 f150 with a 5.4 and the motor blew up... Now my question is will I have to put a 5.4 back in it or will a 4.6 work

Putting a 4.6 would be possible but stupid. Any 5.4 2v 99+ will work. Going with a 4.6 would be a major downgrade and there is plenty of good 5.4's out there.

Yeah... But in my area there hard to come by and when you do find a 5.4 there 1200 dollars or more and wore out.. Guess I will keep looking for a 5.4 though

a 4.6 will run forever if maintained. But i agree with jethat. It'd be a downgrade in your situation. Keep looking, check pick and pulls for em too.

There are Rebuilders who sell them under 2 grand. I found the one in my truck for about 1200 it only had 40,000 on it. Remember any 2v 99+ will work. Truck Van Explorer expedition. You'll have to swap a few parts but they all work. There still putting the 5.4-2v in the Econoline far as I know.. And Far as I know its a swap..

Your going to have to spend a few bucks... it's an engine, and a big one. You should be able to find engines at junkyards, used car parts or craigslist. Check areas near you, you may have to be willing to drive a few hours. Expect to pay about 1000-1800 depending on mileage. Id try and find one with 50-75k for 1400ish. If your patient, you can find better deals. I got mine with only 10k miles for 1400 and that included the rest of the truck which I was able to sell parts off of and make my money back. But it took about 2 months of looking every day to find it.

What area are you in..?

There's a shop in my town that specialized in 5.4 and 4.6 rebuilds. Long blocks are 1600. To me, that is a fair price if the builder is reputable.

Just hit http://car-part.com/ and fill in ALL the info and that site will list ALL engines for sale in your area. That site will also keep looking for you as far out as you specify.

Agree with jbrew. Find a lot of stuff there. 6 transmissions, 1 transfer case, 1 9.75 rear axle.

When I was looking I found the best deal by actually calling the local JY's not all of them are part of car parts network.
