What Gears?
What Gears?
I have 33in tires with 3.55 gears and I'm looking into changing gears. I want to get a gear ratio that would be the equivalent to 3.73s with my tire size so i was wondering if that would be 4.10s or 4.56s?
I agree with jethat. . . But if your set on gears and always having 33's then 4.10's is prolly the way to go. . Unless you tow a lot and mostly drive around town 4.56 would be nice too. . . The itch to go taller and bigger will get you sooner than later so 4.56's would be a smarter investment prolly. . . And the 8.8 is a tough axle too, handles my 4.88s and 37's good

Depending on how you drive and were you do most of your driving it could actually IMPROVE your gas mileage. If most of your driving is city youll get an improvement. It will hurt some on the freeway but not as much as you might think..
I went from 2.90's to 3.79 in my mustang.. At the same time I added an overdrive transmission. Off the line it was the best money I have ever spent on that car. Biggest bang for your buck. I have 33's and 3.55 gears in my truck and dont feel the need to regear. I have a 5.4 though. the difference between 4.1 and 4.56 is very small. I would do the 4.56 if I were going to mess with mine..
I did my research extensively on this subject. I have a 4x4 97 w/ the 4.6. I have 265/70/R17s so I guess that is like a 31? I don't plan on going much bigger than 33, if I do that even. So I went with 4.10s because of my future plans. And going from 3.55s I can definitely tell the difference. My MPG did go up and the truck feels completely different. It doesn't struggle as hard to get up to speed or have difficulty maintaining speed even when there is a head wind. I didn't go with 4.56s because I wouldn't make it worth it. My truck is more or less my extra vehicle right now and only gets driven during bad weather (around town), when hauling (mix driving), and hunting season (mix driving). As long as you know what route you're going to go with the truck in future I think 4.10s would help you quite a bit, without leaving you with regrets of not going to 4.56s.
