If we're talking about the 2002, it has standard one piece plugs. Torque to 28ft.lbs. dry, no anti-seize, and use dielectric grease on the cop boots. Motorcraft plugs recommended.

Bluejay I am having the same problem and need clarification myself....as a 2002 model 5.4L Screw does it fall into the spark plug blow out or breakage "classification"? If it has one peice plugs (thx JCR) then I am hoping that I am in the clear but usung the search here on the forum all I am reading is disaster problems on tune ups with the 5.4L. I don't know if my truck falls into this category, it does have a 5.4L. I think after reading a bunch of those search articles that the problem engines are 2004 to 2008. If my truck is one of the culprits I am not finding the TSB in my search I did find the plug removal thread in how to. And was wondering if there is a link somewhere here on the forum for TSBs that I have overlooked.

2002 -> Possible blow out because of the 4 thread heads. Does not always happen. Torque to 28ft/lbs w/o anti-seize, not 13ft/lbs w/anti-seize.

You will not run into the same issue as the 2004-2008 3v 5.4L with the spark plug breaking.

TSB's, well to get them in such a way to research isn't a simple task unless you can log on w/OASIS. Not to many around here that can, - that I know of anyway.

You can always join ALLData for vehicle specific or the Motocraft site as well. There are some sites that offer them up, but often don't resource the entire library.

You can go to another Ford truck site where they are available for free.
The year 2002 was a transition year for the 5.4 with re-engineered heads.
You may or may not have the new design.
The plugs are still one piece standard type until the cam phaseing design came in in 2004 requiring still another re-design.
.

Also the OBDII program and hardware changed to the 'CAM' version of OBDII in 2004.
A European software and hardware design.
This change was mandated by the US EPA for all marketers of vehichles here.
Good luck.
