Thanks for all of the input fella's, it is really appreciated! Thinking I may get some quotes, to see what the damage will be. Anyone had this done? If so, what did you spend? Did you do it yourself or take it a shop?

If you take it to a reputable shop, gears for both axles, parts and labor, will be in the $1500 to $1800 range.

Swap the 4.6 for a 5.4.

Wait till you ride in a real truck...

that wimpy ecoboost won't seem so cool after that

The 4.6 can barely move itself, I couldn't imagine trying to tow with one

I tend to agree after owning a 97 4.6 with 3.55's and a 03 5.4 with 3.55's. The 4.6 with felt under powered when it was towing loaded enclosed 8x10 uhaul trailer up the Interstates between Georgia and Pennsylvania with O/D off.

I now use the 03 5.4 to pull a 24' pontoon boat, large outboard, with a heavy homebuilt trailer, and I'm looking for more gear just too overcome the air drag of the boat at 45+ mph. I also only use it for this towing 1% of time.

1800 bucks

1800 buys a lot of gas for 1% of drive time....

I would gotts mod ($8-15), exhaust upgrade(cat back 350-800), and WOT that thing until it dies... Power range at 3-3.5k you have to let it breath... aftermarket air filter (wet or dry K&N/AOE, just no paper) $50-70.

get a new truck with better towing specs next time... but for 1% of driving...heck 10% of driving...

I would just save my $1800 for the extra fuel riding @ 3.5K ...

Do what you want of course... just my two cents.

And I think you should always use the finger instead of window tint when towing.
