Hey guys,

I have a 98 f150 4.6L 4x4. I changed the tranny oil a week ago. truck has 192,000 miles on it and the plastic ring was in the pan. yesterday i started the truck up and saw the 4x4 light on.... the **** was on 2. i toggled it between all three positions and the 4x4 light will not go away.

Has anyone bumped into this problem or anyone know of a fix?

Was going to change the transfer case oil and the rear diff oil tomorrow...now i dont know if i should do it or now. Help please!

Same is happening to me, only I didn't change the tranny fluid which could be a coincidence for you. I'm not sure but could be a problem with the GEM but I haven't got any responses either.

Works both ways buddy and since "8" is 3 keys from "5", -I'm not even sure you know what your driving.

 

Truck is still in 4wd mode. It's even locked up the the wheels and it sounds like I am peeling out while going 2 mph and barely giving gas.

 

I had the same problem with my 97 F-150.First probelms were The power windows worked off and on then the wipers and interior dome light quite the they started working and my 4x4 esof light came on and truck was stuck in 4x low.Turned out the Gem was the problem.Replaced it then a few rappes with a ruber malet on the 4x motor on the back of the transfer case as my wife put trck in neutral and worked the switch and wamoo it works now.Seems Ford has a problem with water leaks around the driver side windshield and pinch welds.if you type in year and gem R&R theres some good info that will help or e-mail me and I'll try to forward...
