4x4 and heater control lights
Seems a bit stupid but I have looked at all of the fuses under the dash and they all seem to be ok...?
I have no lights at the 4x4 switch and heater controls.
A few nights ago my wife thought she was turning on the heater but instead engaged 4x4 L... called me in a panic trying to explain everything it was doing. Took me a minute to figure out she had it in 4x4 L. So, that needs to get fixed. Fuse?
Also, on a side note... I thought that 4x4 L you had to be at a stop for it to engage? I know the 4x4H can be engaged on the fly but I always thought low would not engage unless at a complete stop.
2 days ago I was hunting with my dad and he did the same thing, turned the 4x4L on thinking it was the heater. We were going about 15mph downhill and it engaged almost immediately. About threw me through the window..

Behind your kick panels you'll see green ground bolts, -8 or 10mm. There is 2 on the drivers side and one on the passenger side. I think the passenger side is just the inertia ground ? Can't recall, check it anyway since its so easy to do. Make sure they aren't dirty or corroded. At least loosen and re-torque to hopefully improve contact. Personally, I wire wheeled the back of the bolts and paint at the cab contact. The a little dielectric to keep the corrosion away.
Also, check the ground below the passenger side cab floor. This grounds the cab to the frame.
After going thru all my cab grounds, -I had dash/interior lights in places that I hadn't noticed were missing before hand lol.
If all else fails, - install a clapper. Clap Clap!
LOL..

that would blow a few peoples minds
Yea, I briefly went over the fuse diagram in the manual but couldnt find anything directly involving those lights and nothing else. Everything else works. I'll go over it again, check some grounds and if that don't work then I'll dig around behind the dash and see if something has come loose.
Taking the **** off is a good idea. Maybe relocate it.

This is why I like having an actual shift lever; no accidental 4LO shifting!
There always remains the possibility that the lights are burnt out. The heater controls are fairly simple to get at. You remove the center dash bezel, undo four screws, pull out the panel and unplug the harnesses at back. The 4x4 shift **** thingy is in the same bezel and you'll see the bulb right away.

Back from the dead.
Brew, I checked the grounds behind the kick panels and all look well. Where is the one you mentioned under the passenger cab? Is it the body to frame ground? If so, it looks fine as well, no corrosion.
Also, fog lights are not working. Not sure how long it has been that way... probably around the time the 4x4 **** light and heater lights stopped working. Coincidence?
Checked both fuses for fog lights, ok. Only other guess would be the relay which I will replace shortly.
If none of that does it, I'll pull the heater bezel and 4x4 **** to replace the lights but it seems odd they would all burn out at the same time and the fog lights arent working.

If you look under the cab toward the front there should be a braided ground wire. Your could be totally missing ? Look for bolts that may have a piece of the connector behind them. Maybe I'll go take a pic of it, -wanting to try out this camera anyway lol.
I also removed the main headlight/light switch assembly and cleaned it up real well at all the connections. I did a little customizing as well at the same time, -so I could run my fogs with the running lights.
Those inside cab grounds, I used a small cupped wire wheel to take the paint off from behind the green ground bolts.
I have pics of that somewhere. Yea, I thought I took some pics of all that when I did it. Iduno, I'll look.

Yea, I have a dremel with some sand/grinder attachments that I use when making a new grounds for accessories. Did not do that for the in cab grounds, just looked for corrosion/bad connections.
It would only take a second to pop them off, grind the paint off and put them back. I'll try for that this Sunday. At the same time I'll check the bulbs. Something tells me the bulbs are fine and there is a bad connection somewhere. Maybe at the switch? I dunno. It's the common between the fogs and interior lights.
I'll look to see if there is a write up on adding the fogs to the driving lights. I know there is one for adding them to the high beams but I'm not sure that is needed. I like the idea of the fogs with running lights though.
New camera eh? I remember mine when it was new... took me a year to figure it out...enough to use it.

Yea, the only problem I've had with having my fogs come on separately is that I forget to turn on the heads when it gets dark. Maybe I can adjust the auto feature ? Yea, I just thought of that... aDuhh..
I went thru the instructions for the new camera, - learned everything a few days ago. It didn't stick
I guess that is a plus for my O3 f150...you can only turn the fogs on when the main light are already on, AND they turn themselves off when I shut the main switch off.
HOWEVER, I arrived at this thread because I am having problems with my heater control light. Similar to your situation I have checked all the fuses, none are blown, and also checked those that are there to the diagram in my manual, all of the missing ones are supposed to be missing. SO, I guess that narrows me down to the light behind the controls? Either way I plan to pick one up tomorrow and dive in!
Thanks for the info guys!
