Weird headlight problem
Weird headlight problem
A new problem just started with my truck. It started occurring after I took it into the dealer for a basic oil change service, but that might just be coincidence.
More times than none, I can't control my headlights when the truck is running. They are always on. I start the engine, and right away, the headlights turn on even with the switch to the off position (normally just daytime lamps). My fogs can still be operated manually, and the highbeams as well, but I can't shut them off.
When I turn the truck off, the lights still stay on (including my dash lights) for about 10-15 seconds, and then shuts off. It has never done this before up to this point.
It doesn't do it every single time, but most of the time. Sometimes it will begin with the problem happening, but then half way through the drive I have headlight control again.
What should I check? Any ideas?

I think he has the **** style auto lights. I have the roller style. I find it odd ford changed it. I think it may be a switch.
After driving it a bit more, I have figured out what is happening. I just don't know why...
The lights are permanently on auto mode, even with the switch in the OFF position.
How the hell?

I just went through the fuse/relay list to try to get clues - and fuse 29 in the inside fuse box is for the "autolamp module", among other things. I don't know offhand where this module is, but I'd suspect it might be bad.

I finally got around to tackling this issue today. Thanks to everyone for the input!
I popped up that rubber cover on the dash where the light sensor is, and disconnected the grey clip plug. Now my auto lights don't work - which is what I wanted - and my lights function normally manually. I'm just wondering if by undoing that clip, if anything else won't work? Or is it exclusively for auto lights?
All in all I think auto lights are a stupid option, and people should know better as to when to turn lights on depending on environmental conditions!
