Window comes up at different speeds

2000 F150 XLT 4x4 SuperCab

Power Windows

My passenger window comes up with fluctuating speed. It seems to come down as it should. Going up, it starts off as it should and about 1/3 of the way up it starts to slow down. It continues to slow until the last 1/3 it kicks back to normal speed. All the controls work as they should. Can I safely conclude that I need to change the motor? How extensive is the repair? Driveway job?

Thanks,

Dave

how much is it slowing down? i know naturally you loose some speed, but i dont think its any to be worried about, and if im correct all you need is to pull the panel, swap, and replace panel... that is if needed.

Mine does the same thing. Seems like there are two "slow" points. I've had the panel off a few times. The motor replacement seems like a huge pain. Think you have to drill out some bolts or something, if I remember correctly.

Try spraying the track with a lubricant. I tried several things on mine. I finally settled on a lithium grease type spray that's been working..

Yeah, I would second the lithium grease idea. It sounds like the track has an area that the regulator is starting ti bind up on a little.

I have also taken apart alot of window motors and cleaned them up inside and reinstalled. Cleaning off all the old brush debris helps with operations.

My '01 passenger window was doing this for awhile before it was totaled. It's most likely going to need a new motor, or the track is causing the issue. Either or.
