engine over cooling???
Well, the truck ran fine for a few days and then yesterday it overheated on me. I pulled over to the side of the road, shifted into Neutral and let it idle and the temp came back down.
I'm wondering if maybe, since I had some debris trapped in the old thermostat, if there might be more debris in there and that's intermittently blocking the thermostat passageway?

I did have that done a couple years ago at Ford, with yellow long-life coolant. Assuming it is debris in there, I don't know where it's coming from or if it will continue to happen after a flush.
How do you know when it's time to replace hoses? Can the outside feel fine and the insides be breaking down?

I talked to a mechanic friend and he says it's likely an air bubble still trapped in the system. I thought I did everything to purge all the air, but maybe I didn't get it all.
I have kept the overflow full, ran the truck with the heater on for half an hour with it parked on an incline and the overflow cap off, and squeezed the upper rad hose to try to burp it, and revved it up a bit. Any other advice?

Steep hill usually works. Or we'd park a car half on a lift at work and pick it up.
There is also the right tool for the job, a coolant vacuum refiller. It pulls vacuum on the cooling system, ensuring all the air is out, then allows you to fill the system through the tool.
