Alarm goes off when the door opens if I use power locks
I have a 1997 4x4 Ext Cab and if I use the locks manually and open with the key everything is fine. But when I use the power locks and then open with the key the alarm goes off until I put the ignition key in and turn it. I have not had this truck for long and the ignition key is a different key than the door key and I do not have a remote to the truck. I am thinking it has to do with the column maybe being changed at some point and not having the same keys all around. Or that I don't have a remote and maybe I need to use one to lock and unlock so the computer gets the hint? Or am I over thinking this? Any idea what the problem is? Would like to use the power locks on this thing. And yes, I do intend to buy a remote soon, I just have not gotten one yet.
When you hit the power lock button, I believe it is setting your alarm. To deactivate that you would need to use the key fob to unlock it. When you manually unlock it still leaves the alarm armed. My buddy had the same issue with an s-10 a few years ago.
Need to get a key fob. You can order one from eBay for under 20. Program it yourself and use it. Problem with be solved. Hitting the lick button engages anti theft system in truck. Need either the key fob or a key with a chip in it to disarm alarm. Key fob it cheapest route and easiest.
97s didn't have chips in the key.
My 97 had the same key for the ignition and doors. But if I turn the key in the door to unlock after engaging the alarm, either by remote or lock button, the alarm goes off. Completely normal.
Think of it this way, your alarm will sound if someone unlocks your door with a screwdriver. :-)
