2002 4.2 in my 1997

My low mileage 1997 F150 with a 4.2 finally died from the dreaded vapor lock. I found a low mileage 2002 4.2. Will my 1997 intake and sensors bolt on to the 2002? Is there other differences I'm not thinking about? Would I be better off rebuilding my '97?

Are you able to get the the wiring harness, computer, intake, etc. off of the 2002? More parts you can get from the donor truck the better!

why would he want the ECM that's not compatable with his current trucks dash cluster??

if anything, yes grab the complete engine and wiring harness and be done with it make it a simple plug-n-play VS wiring, and cluster swap, and pats disableing, and key changing and all that other crap when the OP simply wants his/her/it's truck running again as easy as possible

Well excuuuse me.

Gee, I dunno, maybe he wants to upgrade his dash cluster as well? Maybe he's buying the whole donor truck and has the time to upgrade 97 components to 2002? But since you have instructed him to make it an easy and quick swap, I guess he should probably just do as you say, right?

All just speculation about what he wants to do on both of our parts really. I simply made a suggestion to him since no one had. But I have also been here long enough to and have had the fortune (or is it misfortune?) to read many of your sarcastic and disdainful posts.

Lots of work to even upgrade the cluster.

Oh, no doubt. I also understand it was not necessary to recommend taking the PCM, mistake on my part, initially. It guess it was more about the way I was replied to. Thin skin that day.

I was really just hoping I could take the 2002. Pull off the intake and replace it with the 1997 intake and sensors. Then install it. I'm not looking for another long drawn project. Just need to get my truck up and going.

I'm pretty sure 97-03 is same block. All should bolt on but any junkyard should be able to confirm
