Tranny model?

How can I know the model of my transmission in order to buy the proper oil? Is ant number on it or in other part of the truck? Has VIN any information?
Thanks

Manual or automatic?
Automatic is a 4r70 for most and 4r100 for lightning and 7700 series.

Amsoil ATF. Works great either way. But yea, unless you have one if the two mentioned above, it's as stated.

Mercon V is fine for any 2003 automatic. No need to overpay unless it makes you feel better.

The transmission type is given on the VC label (it's not in the VIN) under the letters "TR"

7 — four-speed automatic (4R100), heavy duty
E — four-speed automatic, E4OD (4R100)
M — five-speed manual overdrive (Mazda M5R2-C)
U — four-speed automatic, AODE (W/4R70W)
